Established in 2024, the South Side Sanctuary is a transformative community gathering space in the heart of Bronzeville, Chicago

Arts & Culture
Bronzeville’s rich cultural heritage comes alive at the Sanctuary, where local artists share their stories through multi-disciplinary art and design. We create opportunities for creative expression, connecting generations and telling the stories that define our community. The Sanctuary’s commitment to the arts began with the curation of an art fence, supporting local talent through a paid initiative funded by DCASE.

Health & Wellness
Holistic wellness is at the heart of the Sanctuary, addressing the mental, physical, and spiritual needs of our community. With a focus on overcoming the challenges of stress, isolation, and burnout, we offer accessible resources to support mental health. In response to community feedback, we prioritize well-being through consistent access to wellness initiatives and events that foster connection and healing.

Sports & Recreation
The Sanctuary is committed to promoting physical well-being and fostering social connections through skateboarding and all-wheel activities. Our programs focus on creating fun, positive peer relationships, and developing social-emotional skills—key components for youth development. Sports serve as an immersive, engaging structure for young people, providing an outlet for health, leadership, and positive group dynamics, especially for those in need of additional support.

Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurship is a driving force behind the Sanctuary’s mission to empower the South Side. Through our Curatorial Fund, we support local entrepreneurs and youth with capital and mentorship, helping them create sustainable businesses. The Sanctuary’s commitment to economic empowerment comes from the belief that business and financial independence are essential to building power and self-sufficiency in the community.
